Students at York Center School are participating in a school-wide initiative called One School One Book! All students received a copy of the book Dragons In A Bag by Zetta Elliott during our kick-off assembly, and they are reading it together with their classroom teachers.
Each day during the morning announcements, Principal Mrs. Derdenger shares the vocabulary word that will be featured in the day’s chapter. Students can also participate with the interactive bulletin board in the main hallway. Art teacher Mrs. Meyer is even incorporating dragon-themed art projects into her lessons.
Sharing a book as a whole school is one of the many ways YC Lions create a sense of school community. “One of the many things that is great about One School One Book is that you can talk to anybody from any grade about Dragons In A Bag,” says 5th grader Aisha Syeda. “One School One Book is also a great way to make new friends.”
What a great way to get YC Lions talking about books!
