Multicultural Celebrations at York Center

Students at York Center share their valuable cultures by hosting the virtual multicultural festival this year. Events like these help students express their unique skills and talents through their proactive participation, learn about other cultures, and celebrate cultural diversity. Learn more about “York Center’s Multicultural Celebrations” and how these celebrations bring York Center’s learning community together.

It started with an event and ended up as an incredible Multicultural Festival at York Center. As a part of this multicultural festival this year, York Center School has hosted many multicultural activities to honor the cultures that make up the York Center Community. Students have shared their family celebrations on a padlet, recorded multicultural readings on flipgrid, and participated in the multicultural acrostic poetry contest. Additionally, students enjoyed making multicultural crafts and watching virtual multicultural musical performances. Also, they were very excited to showcase their knowledge about different cultures by playing the blooket game. Staff from both York Center and Stevenson Elementary Schools also read multicultural books on flipgrid to celebrate the work of authors who spotlight cultural diversity. These readings were easily accessible to the parents as well. Students earned book prizes, multicultural pencils, multicultural lanyards, multicultural passports, and certificates. The best part of these celebrations was the participation of our littlest lions from pre-school who enthusiastically traced their little hands on the multicultural banner making the celebration even more memorable!

Mrs. Qazi has been organizing the multicultural event for the past 3 years and she says that this is the event that makes her proud to teach at York Center because it honors all the cultures that make up the York Center Community. In the past several years, York Center has held many in-person Multicultural Nights to celebrate diverse cultures. Hopefully, it could return in person again next year in 2023.
