What's Up at YC?

WOW! Have our Lions been up to some awesome things since the beginning of the new year! Even though the unexpected weather sent us for a loop, we still found a way to enjoy our time learning, creating, and having fun.

As a whole school, we experienced two spectacular events that fostered our community of learners. The first was an interactive assembly sponsored by the PTA. Our Lions had the opportunity to become crime scene investigators and help solve a mystery crime through science! “It was so cool to learn about how scientists help solve crimes, I thought it was only detectives”, shared one third-grade student. “BEST. ASSEMBLY. EVER.”, shared another. Overall, it was a unique way for our students to learn about science while cultivating community.

The next event we had made us want to jump out of our seats….quite literally! Our annual 2-minute jump-rope challenge had the Lions challenging themselves and others. Throughout the month, students attempted to jump for two minutes straight- to promote cardiovascular endurance. Many fourth and fifth grade students, who attempted the challenge last year, were quite proud of their growth and progress. “Last year, I remember being sad that I did not make it, and this year I did!”- stated a fourth grader who missed the challenge by 10 seconds last year. After making it on the 2-minute challenge board, all grade levels had the opportunity to jump it out in our championship. Two winners, a 5th-grade student, and 3rd grade student, jumped for over 10 minutes straight!

Needless to say, this year has been off to a great start! We’re excited to share more soon!
