This now staple P.E. unit/activity did not always have the hype it currently has. Mrs. Crowe (P.E. Teacher) was originally met with moans and groans when the jump-rope unit began. She wanted to “find a way to motivate students to show interest in the unit and give it their best effort”.
The first year the Challenge was introduced, there was only a timer, and students individually attempting to jump rope consistently for two minutes without stopping (via mistake or fatigue). As the years progressed, Mrs. Crowe wanted to elevate the Challenge, and continue to motivate students by having them add their names to the “2-Minute Challenge Board” after conquering the Challenge. Now, seven years later, it has evolved into a school-wide event with students and faculty participating in the final Championship Challenge. During this event, Lions attempt to jump for as long as they can without making a mistake or stopping. The last Lion standing is awarded some cool York Center and Kids Heart Challenge SWAG.
The Championship for each grade level will take place on February 16th during specials. The current record for jumping without stopping is 15 minutes! Ask your Lion how they enjoyed the event!
